Tech Exchange (TEX) is an Oakland-based nonprofit that has provided free, refurbished computers and digital skills training to low-income families across the Bay Area since 1995. In this way, TEX is tackling the digital divide and promoting environmental sustainability.
Tons of electronics end up in landfills each year, posing a threat to the planet, by TEX’s model offers an eco-friendly solution that gives devices an extra life.
Additionally, TEX helps households sign up for low-cost internet and offers tech support through both its phone hotline and biweekly pop-up events.
Besides helping families, TEX also supports schools and community centers to ensure that they have access to all the devices that they need.
Tech Exchange was instrumental in helping Solano County launch Solano Connected in 2023, and has remained one of the program’s key partners ever since. To date, TEX has provided more than 750 hours of digital skills training in Solano County.
